Background: The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Senegal to the United Nations would like to extend an invitation to you to join us on July 30 a roundtable discussion of the different ways that NGOs and non-profits in your country and region are utilizing digital and social media for the good of all humanity.
Over 20 missions will send representatives to participate in this meeting, including: Switzerland, South Africa, Liechtenstein, South Sudan, Mauritania, Mali, Mauritius, India, China, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Rwanda, Mexico, Nigeria, Mali, Sierra Leone, Algeria and Canada. Human Rights Watch and the Chief Liaison of the International Criminal Court to the United Nations will also participate.
Our panelists will include:
- Matthew Daniels, JD, PhD of the Institute of World Politics and author of the newly released Human Liberty 2.0, the first edition of an annual book series about humanitarians around the globe who utilize digital and social media to advance the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Some of their stories are chronicled here.
- Katy Mony is the head of the Washington office for Ushaidi, a crowd-mapping NGO originally launched in Kenya. They are known for their innovative work using crowd mapping to save victims of natural disasters.
- Stephen Enada is a leader of the International Committee on Nigeria. They have used digital and social media to document rising levels of violence and lawlessness in Nigeria.
