OSP Commends Final Farm Bill, Calls on Administration to Take Next Steps
Washington, D.C. – Today, the farm bill conference committee released final text for the 2018 Farm Bill, setting up final passage in the both the House of Representatives and Senate in the coming days. The Opportunity Solutions Project (OSP) commends members of the conference committee for their efforts to fight fraud within the food stamp program and urges the Trump administration to take next steps to promote work and reduce dependency within the welfare program.
The conferenced bill makes progress towards reducing food stamp fraud and protecting the truly needy with reforms.
The Farm Bill leaves ample opportunity for the Trump administration to advance regulatory reforms that further promote the power of work to connect able-bodied adults to self-sufficiency and protect program integrity with measures that reduce fraud.
“With record low unemployment rates across the nation and millions of available jobs, reforms that promote work for more Americans have never been in higher demand,” said Kristina Rasmussen, vice president of federal affairs at OSP. “The farm bill is a positive step towards reducing dependency, but more must be done to ensure the food stamp program is returned to its intent as a temporary safety-net.”
